GHCETSA_Color Logo Very SmallThe Gunnison/Hinsdale Combined Emergency Telephone Service Authority is empowered with the operation of an emergency telephone service for exchanges 641, 349, 943, 944, and a portion of 862. It also includes wireless communications within portions of Gunnison, Hinsdale and Saguache counties. See Boundary Map. The Authority is authorized to collect an emergency telephone charge equal to the amount authorized by state statute. The current surcharge is $3 per phone line, effective June 1, 2023.  The surcharge is applicable to landlines, wireless and VOIP. Vendors are allowed a 2% vendor fee upon timely filing and payment of the return. Returns are due on the last day of each month following the month of sale.

Funds collected are used to pay for the cost and installation of equipment, charges to service suppliers, related personnel expenses, and other costs directly related to the continued operation of the emergency telephone services.

The governing board for the Authority consists of Eight voting members:
  • Crested Butte Fire Protection District
  • Town of Crested Butte 
  • City of Gunnison 
  • Gunnison County
  • Gunnison Fire Protection District
  • Gunnison Valley Health EMS 
  • Hinsdale County
  • Town of Mt. Crested Butte

Board meetings are held quarterly to review financial transactions and discuss current and future needs of the Authority.

Current surcharge = $3.00 per line per month
Applicable to landlines, wireless and VOIP
Allowable Vendor Service Fee = 2%
Filing Frequency = $15 or less per month, annually; Under $300 per month, quarterly; $300 or more per month, monthly.
