The Community Development Department includes Planning, Building and Fire staff.  The department administers the Land Development Code (LDC), Municipal Code and the International Building and Fire Codes. City Codes ensure that development within the city limits is done in a way that respects the rights of adjacent property owners, contributes positively to the community character, provides safety for the public, considers environmental impact, and plans for future growth.

The staff of the Community Development Department works closely with the Planning and Zoning Commission and  City Council in the interpretation and enforcement of City policies.

Welcome to Gunnison

Gunnison is a small mountain community on the western slope of Colorado with a population of approximately 6,560 full time residents. The population increases annually with the influx of tourism and Western Colorado University students numbering an additional 2,500. The City of Gunnison is the county seat for Gunnison County. Gunnison has a rich history of ranching, agriculture, mining, tourism and outdoor recreation opportunities that bring many more people through the community.
