Community Resource Officer

- Kindergarten through 4th grade D.A.R.E. program
- 5th grade core D.A.R.E. Program
- Second Step: Taught at the Community School
- Assisting High School groups with their prevention activities including health classes, Student Leadership, and the Courage to Live group
- STEP for teens classes (systematic training for effective parenting)
- Coordinating Safe Ride of Gunnison, Inc., a free tipsy taxi service
- Education on correct use of child safety seat checks and distributing low cost seats for underserved families
- Coffee With a Cop - an outreach program at WCU and GHS
- Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT)
- Social Responsibility Training (SRT)
In addition to these activities, the Gunnison Police Department works with other groups and agencies to promote safety and prevention. Through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) grant funding we have helped the RE1J School District, the local Partners organization, and WCU with health and prevention activities, classes, and positive alternative activities.
