These are resources, groups, recreation opportunities, and services for older in the Gunnison Valley, and beyond. The Gunnison Senior Center does not manage any of these, please contact the persons or group listed for more information.
GENERAL RESOURCE
Gunnison County Senior Health & Resources Program: Located in Gunnison County Health and Human Services, this office provides community outreach and education, preventative health, and adult protection and advocacy services to seniors, at risk adults, and their families with the goal of creating a more independent and healthy community. Located at 220 N. Spruce Street, Gunnison. Contact: 970.641.3244

SENIOR TRANSPORTATION


  •  GVH Senior Bus Service:  FREE bus service in Gunnison and nearby vicinity available by appointment, 7 days a week, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Call Gunnison Valley Health Senior Transportation Services to provide them with your information prior to requesting your first ride. For all other rides, call at least 1 hour in advance to: 970.596.6700.
  • Crested Butte Senior Bus Service: This bus service provides transportation between Crested Butte and Gunnison for Crested Butte residents, and service to Montrose and Grand Junction for all Gunnison Valley seniors and disabled members for medical appointments. To reserve, call at least 7 days to 1 month in advance. Service available Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Call: 970.275.4768
  • All Other Public Transportation: The Gunnison Valley RTA provides FREE bus services between Gunnison and Crested Butte, and between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. They also partner to provide bus service from the Gunnison Valley to Denver on a daily basis at a low cost. For all information on these services, CLICK HERE.
ADDITIONAL FOOD PROGRAMS 
  • Gunnison County Food Pantry 60+ Day: Every Thursday (except holidays), 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Food shopping offered to seniors age 60+ on limited or fixed incomes. Located at 321C N. Main Street (entrance on Ohio Avenue). Call: 970.641.4156.
  • Mountain Roots Food Project
    • Backyard Harvest: Both a food rescue and donation program providing fresh produce from local gardens and farms to residents experiencing food insecurity. Sign up to receive a box of fresh food weekly, or as needed. Boxes can be picked up or delivered.
  • Gunnison Food Assistance Application: Assistance is available to low-income families and individuals as a monthly benefit to help pay for food expenses. Only U.S. citizens and legal resident aliens are eligible for the Food Assistance Program.
  • Crested Butte Food Bank: Located at 625 Maroon Avenue in Crested Butte, this food bank is open on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Contact: 970.349.6237 or home@ohbejoyfulchurch.com.

Welcome to Gunnison

Gunnison is a small mountain community on the western slope of Colorado with a population of approximately 6,560 full time residents. The population increases annually with the influx of tourism and Western Colorado University students numbering an additional 2,500. The City of Gunnison is the county seat for Gunnison County. Gunnison has a rich history of ranching, agriculture, mining, tourism and outdoor recreation opportunities that bring many more people through the community.
