Investigations is staffed by experienced, highly-trained, professional detectives whose sole job is to investigate and solve the variety of complex crimes that occur in the City of Gunnison each year. Investigations oversees the identification, collection, and processing of crime scene evidence. Detectives have specialized knowledge, skills, and resources to investigate and solve cases which include:

CrimeStoppersInvestigations administrates the Gunnison Valley Crime Stoppers Program. Information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in criminal activity will be rewarded with up to $1,000.00.  Information can be phoned into the Gunnison Valley Crime Stoppers’ hotline at (970) 641-8280 or sent via email. All callers will remain anonymous. Do not attempt to contact violators, notify the Gunnison Police Department immediately at (970) 641-8200.

The Gunnison Police Department has a crime scene team made up of investigators, one civilian and other trained members of the Gunnison Police Department. The crime scene team is supervised by the Investigation Division. All members have been trained in photography, evidence collection, crime scene sketching, and print lifting.

The population increases annually with the influx of tourism and Western Colorado University students numbering an additional 2,500. The City of Gunnison is the county seat for Gunnison County.
